“The Sun is Rising” by Bookartist Kendra Last
Inspiration for this book came from this song, The Sun is Rising by Britt Nicole. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LO36F--Vn1g
I believe that there is so much promise in a new day. Each and every day the sun rises again, no matter the hurt we feel, trauma, betrayal or tragedy in our lives. Every day we get a fresh clean start. And I believe you should write about it every day. And so I created this book to write about your new days.
The book features nice
light wood for the cover. The sun rays,
featuring The Togetherness Project’s logo as the middle three rays, are made
out of three different woods. Each day
is different. Each sun rise is different. Each woman who comes to The Togetherness
Project is different. But we are all
beautiful, and together we make something magnificent. The middle three rays are made of Purple
It is ranked as one of the hardest woods in the world. It is strong, just like the women of
Togetherness. When growing, these trees
are a light brown color, but only when cut down does it quickly change from
brown to this beautiful purple. For many
of us, our lives seemed pretty good and nice.
We were growing. Then one day we
were cut down. It hurt. But we quickly changed from our former selves
into something even better. Had we not
been cut down we would never know how truly beautiful we could become. The other rays on the cover are made from 2
other woods because we all come from different backgrounds, but all rise
together. This book is bound with a
Coptic Stitch, an Exposed Spine binding.
We are bound together and form close friendships as we become exposed
and vulnerable like these stitches. Each
signature is wrapped in paper the colors of a sunrise to symbolize the rising
of the sun, and the rising of our new lives that have begun.
